[Responsibilities]
You will lead, mentor, and work together with project managers to ensure that all projects are implemented safely, with minimal impact to the environment, and according to agreed projec schedules, budgets, and contractual requirements. You will work closely with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders who are critical to proper project execution, including local staff members, heads of functions, global colleagues, contractors, authorities, communities, investors, and lenders. The work will mainly focus on the construction phase of projects, but it will also require involvement in the development and operational phases, as well as M&A activities. You will foster the need for teamwork, communication, critical analysis of project schedule and risk, as well as solid reporting in order to achieve desired results.

  • Ensure Safety, Health and Environmental (SHE) issues have priority and staff members are engaged
  • Bring projects to commercial operation and provisional acceptance on or ahead of agreed schedules
  • Review critical paths and risks throughout projects and ensure adequate measures in place to mitigate
  • Report project related issues in a timely manner and with a solution oriented approach
  • Maintain updated construction dashboards and create materials for investor presentations
  • Monitor commercial and technical contractual obligations and follow up on milestone payments, change orders, deviations, claims and commercial settlements
  • Complete projects with minimal or no usage of contingencies and identify savings opportunities
  • Work with project managers to enable good working relationships with local communities and authorities
  • Develop and maintain strong network of contractors, equipment suppliers and service providers
  • Facilitate good and collaborative working relationships between the project managers and engineering, construction, project finance, loan compliance, legal and asset management functions
  • Conduct periodic lessons learned exercises to improve performance of activities
  • Review and provide analysis and inputs to contracts during negotiation process to ensure adequacy
  • Drive process improvements across the supply chain to enhance our market competitiveness
  • Lead and support on permitting and other approval processes as required for our activities
  • Develop and implement ideas to engage local communities with ESG activities
  • ・Make sure that document control is in place and that documents are stored appropriately

[Requirements]

  • Business level English and business level Japanese is required
  • Degree in engineering, project management, construction management, or equivalent
  • Multiple years of professional experience in project management, preferably in construction and energy
  • Strong understanding and application of risk assessment and critical path analysis
  • Successful track record of negotiating with external parties
  • Familiarity with technical drawings and specifications
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Powerpoint , and Project
  • Positive energy towards project challenges as well as learning and adapting to business dynamics
  • Owner's mentality in taking responsibility for deliverables
  • Proactive relationship builder with an open communication style
  • One team approach working constructively with domestic and international counterparties
  • Do the right thing to support the company in becoming more competitive and achieving results
  • High attention to detail with excellent analytical skills
  • Self motivated, well organized, and able to work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to travel domestically based on business needs, averaging up to 30% of work time
  • Licensed to drive in Japan
  • Able to manage, control and deliver against multiple projects and work requests in a timely manner
  • Lead and coordinate technical activities involving internal and external stakeholders
  • Periodic travel required (35% to 50%)
