Associate Director, Medical Sciences (Oncology)
・ This position reports to the Oncology Associate Director or Director, Japan reporting to the head of Oncology Medical Affairs.
・ The primary responsibility of MS manager is to manage, lead, train and motivate field medical team (MSs). Other expectations include in close communication and collaboration with counterparts in Oncology BU & R&D and HQ and Asia Pacific region in Oncology MA, and other MA members in Japan, providing scientific/medical guidance during the clinical trials, J-NDA review, launch preparation and postmarketing.
Especially full launch preparation in cross-functional manner is extremely important. Primary responsibilities are as follow:
・ Establish effective working relationships with Oncology KOLs and other key external stakeholders and be recognized as an innovative and value partner in improving quality of care for oncology patients.
・ Manage regular communication with Oncology KOLs and clinical trial investigators to provide medical guidance and more extensive background, additional data or answers to questions in response to issues that arise relative to commercial, scientific or data needs.
・ Maintain clinical, scientific, and technical expertise in Oncology area. Thus, excellent learning agility is highly expected.
・ Working with counterparts in Oncology BU & R&D, manage and develop professionally MSLs including hiring, training, evaluation, motivation, and disciplinary activities in alignment with the company's corporate strategies and objectives. Provide strong leadership to motivate MSL team to achieve excellent results Close collaboration with Medical Affairs L&D is also expected.
・ Collaborate with clinical, regulatory affairs and commercial teams in multiple areas including publication planning, speaker education programs, regional advisory meetings, manuscript review, and conference preparation. Especially excellence in launch preparation is indispensable, thus far, previous launch experience in Oncology area is critical
・ Attend most major conferences and helps coordinate medical affairs activities at conferences and may present to external audience
・ Manage projects to completion, anticipating obstacles and difficulties that may arise, resolving them in a collaborative manner.
・In collaboration with L&D department, support to maintain and further develop newest scientific knowledge and relevant communication skills among medical affairs staffs
・ Ensure that all interactions and activities in Japan adhere to corporate compliance guidance/rules and industry code of conduct, including relevant those related to clinical trials, scientific interactions with internal and external groups, and responses to unsolicited requests for medical/scientific information
Qualification: Specific Education and Experience
・ The ideal candidate will have Advanced degree in life science (PhD, Pharm D, MD) with clinical and research experience in Oncology (the experiences in the Breast Cancer, Lung Cancer and Urothelial Cancer area is preferred).
・ Must have strong industry experience (+5 yrs) including new product launch. Previous experiences in medical, MSL or R&D in Oncology is essential.
・ Must have demonstrated organizational skills to manage multiple projects simultaneously
・ Experience in people management is very much preferred
・ The individual must demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills both in Japanese and English along with excellent judgment and ability to work in a team environment.
・ Hands-on involvement is a must (effective use of external resources)
・ Experience functioning as and/or leading a field-based employee is plus
・ Excellent communication, presentation, and time management skills required; must be adaptable and able to work well within a team and relate effectively with people at all levels of the organization
・ Able to inspire a team to excel by fostering a climate of energy, excitement and personal accountability
・ Demonstrated leadership in ambiguous situations
・ Ability to partner with key internal stakeholders to understand key objectives and to drive plans that achieve or exceed these
